Guy proposes to girlfriend. Drops ring in gutter. New York Police tracks him down and saves the day

This guy mistakenly dropped the ring in a gutter while proposing to his girlfriend.

Nothing can come in between of you and your happiness when your love is true. And what happened to this couple in New York just proved it.

A man proposing to his girlfriend at the famous Times Square in New York was in for a rude shock when the ring slipped from his finger accidentally and fell into the gutter right below his feet.

The man tried a little bit to extract the ring out of the gutter but unfortunately couldn’t, so the upset couple just went their way and forgot about the ring.

The entire scene was captured in a CCTV footage by a camera installed nearby. The New York Police Department aka NYPD got hold of that video and immediately got into action. They extracted the ring out of the gutter and then began the real challenge.

They posted the video on their Twitter page and asked people to recognize the couple if they could, because the couple had not filed any request with the police.

5 exercises to improve your vision naturally and relieve eye strain

Eye exercise,Health,Wellness

If you day starts and ends with poring over small type on your smartphone/computer, then you may soon suffer from eye fatigue and eye diseases. In addition to this, smartphones also emit harmful blue light that can even speed up blindness. But there is a lot that can be done to boost your eyesight, including certain helpful exercises and diet modifications.

Eating right can make a lot of difference to your eyesight. Opt for antioxidant-rich foods such as leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow pepper, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Yellow and green vegetables are also helpful in preventing macular generation, which can go on to cause of blindness. Also, include fish in your diet as it is rich in fatty acids, and foods rich in sulphur such as garlic and onions that prevent cataract formation.

Here are 5 exercises for healthy eyes and better eyesight:

* Palming is a helpful exercise that can relieve eye stress and boost eyesight. Rub your palms together to generate heat, and then gently place them against your eyes for a few seconds and repeat 5 times.

* Eye rolling is another beneficial exercise. Start by rolling your eyes a few times in a clockwise direction. Then take a break and roll them in an anti-clockwise direction. Repeat 5 times.

* Refocusing is a good exercise for your eye muscles and is something you can do even at work. At intervals, look away from your screen to the farthest thing/place that you can see. It can be the end of the corridor, the office room or the farthest building you can see from a window. Put your thumb down in front of your eyes, and now focus on the thumb for a few seconds followed by the distant object/place. Repeat 5 times.

* Blinking exercises are also easy to perform and help with eyesight problems. You will need a blank wall and a place to sit. Close your eyes for 2 seconds, then open them and blink rapidly for 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times.

* 20-20-20 rule: If you want 20:20 vision, this exercise can help you. Every 20 minutes, you need to look at something located 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Simple Leg Exercises Can Reduce Negative Effects On Heart And Blood Vessels

Simple Leg Exercises Can Reduce Negative Effects On Heart And Blood Vessels

Did you know how beneficial are simple leg exercises while lying down? A sedentary lifestyle can cause an impairment of transportation of blood in the body which in turn may increase the risk of diseases in the heart and blood vessels. Performing simple leg exercises can make a huge change and prevent such problems, a new study reveals. Earlier work has demonstrated that prolonged sitting for up to 6 hours results in a decline in both blood flow to the limbs and in our larger arteries’ ability to widen to accommodate increased blood flow.

This is the first study to show that sitting for just 10 minutes is sufficient to reduce blood flow to the legs and impairs the function of small blood vessels supplying muscles in the leg.

This paper also highlights a reduction in the function of small blood vessels when lying down. However, this study suggests that we might be able to reverse this impairment to some extent by performing some simple leg exercises when lying down in bed or on the sofa.

The effects of sitting on blood circulation have been attributed to blood passing more slowly through arteries while sitting. The researchers aimed to find out whether these reductions were caused by sustained sitting, or whether 10 minutes would be sufficient to have a negative effect.

The researchers used a Doppler ultrasound technique alongside the knee to measure blood flow and examined the extent to which blood vessels widened in 18 healthy, young males. These measurements were made prior to and following a 10 -minute period of sitting or during a period of rest while lying down, with or without leg exercises, which were performed by extending the foot back and forth every two seconds for a third of the time spent lying down.

Results showed that a 10 minute period of sitting reduced participants’ ability to rapidly increase blood flow to the lower legs via small blood vessels, but it did not affect the widening of larger arteries in response to increased blood flow. The results also suggest leg exercises can help maintain rapid increases in the blood supply to the limbs.

The study demonstrates changes in blood vessel function measured at the level of the knee. However, the researchers only tested healthy young males and their findings cannot be extended to females. It remains unknown as to how these responses may vary with age, or with people who have heart problems.

Further study may investigate the impact of sitting and inactivity on blood vessels in other places in the body. Studies designed to investigate the impact of repeated bouts of short-term sitting on blood vessel function are needed.

“These findings further our understanding of the negative impact of inactivity on blood vessel function and demonstrate the positive effects of simple leg exercises whilst lying down providing further insight into how inactivity affects vascular health of the lower legs”, says study author Dr Paul Fadel.

The findings appeared in the journal Experimental Physiology.

Leverage The Tight Job Market To Benefit You And Your Career

Related imageThe August 2018 Bureau of Labor Statistics jobs’ report tells us a lot of things about the economy. It shows that unemployment remained low at 3.9%, and – this time – we learned that, in addition to the 201,000 jobs which were added, year-over-year wage growth rose slightly from 2.7% to 2.9%. The average worker finally saw a pay increase, albeit a rather small one, of 10 cents on the hour.

As small as this wage increase is, it does matter. It shows that the job market has tightened significantly, and a tight job market tends to motivate employers to pay workers more. They won’t do this out of the goodness of their hearts. They will do this to compete for top talent, and they will do this to retain their best workers who have become dissatisfied after earning less than they feel they deserve for far too long.

Low unemployment combined with the newly reported wage growth indicates that the tide is turning to your benefit. The stage is set for you to experience a big win in a market where job openings outnumber job seekers as reported in The Wall Street Journal. Dissatisfied workers can win, and astute job seekers (those who know how best to leverage this market) can win most of all.

You have more power in this tight job market; use it to job hop your way to a raise or negotiate your way into a promotion.

Job Hop Your Way to a Raise

Even though unemployment has been decreasing since the years of the Great Recession, wages weren’t increasing, and low wages have been a leading factor for ongoing dissatisfaction in the workplace. The October 2017 Mind The Workplace report found that a whopping 71% of employees were actively looking for new work or thinking about leaving their jobs. The study surveyed more than 17,000 employees across 19 different industries in the United States and concluded that the number one reason stated for workplace dissatisfaction was low wages.

Recent data indicates that many of you can give yourself a raise by simply switching jobs – by voluntarily hopping from one job to another.

Do the following to set yourself up for success:

  1. If you like your current job and have data to support your belief that you are being paid less than the market rate for the work you deliver, first ask your current employer for a raise, and be sure to take your data with you.
  2. Be prepared to substantiate your good performance and present how you are meeting or exceeding current performance expectations and goals. You may need to communicate this information to your current employer or to a new one if you are unsuccessful at getting the raise you ask for with your current employer.
  3. Prepare yourself for rejection and remember it’s not personal. Get mentally prepared to resign your position if you have to. Understand that you are in the driver’s seat, but you have to be willing to search out new or alternate opportunities, and you need to show how you are uniquely skilled to deliver on organizational goals. In a tight job market, job seekers have more power because there are fewer skilled workers searching than there are available jobs.
  4. Read this article which details the risks involved with staying in the same job for too long and provides more understanding for how leaving your company can lead to higher pay and increase your long-term professional prospects.
  5. Get your resume, CV and/or portfolio updated and ensure all material presents you in the best way possible.

Negotiate Your Way to a Promotion

Often times you may want to compete for a new position or promotion but fear you won’t be competitive or even considered because you may not have some seemingly important aspect of the position specifications such as a college degree, a certification or enough experience. You come to believe that certain positions are out of reach for you due to lacking these qualifications. The tight job market is changing the landscape, and you should look again at any new or promotional positions of interest to you.

In a tight job market, employers become more willing to modify or adjust the qualifications for positions and even consider fewer years of work experience and reduced educational requirements to get you in the door and fill their jobs. To demonstrate this point, some employers have announced they are waiving college-degree requirements so they can expand the candidate pool and encourage more applications. On-the-job training is increasingly being viewed as a more timely way to achieve immediate workforce goals in this tight job market. Take advantage of this!

Do the following to set yourself up for success:

  1. Figure out where the demand is in the market and within your region. The latest job report shows that business and professional services and healthcare industries topped the list, among others.
  2. Build your brand and get professional exposure when and where you can. Seek out opportunities to volunteer, to speak, to write and to network.
  3. Take note of your transferable skills. Outline what you have done that you can transfer into a new job to help achieve organizational goals. Even if you don’t have a particular credential or degree, you do have transferable skills of value. You need to be able to identify what these are and why they should matter to the employer.
  4. Build up your confidence and submit your resume, CV and/or application for every position that interests you and you believe you can do; then develop your argument/proposal for why you are the one to do it regardless of how many years of experience you have or whether you have a degree at all. Remember, in this market, employers have fewer and fewer skilled and “qualified” people to choose from, and this is precisely why you have more room to negotiate your way in to a better job.
  5. Look at the position, the company and the culture and do what you can to establish a contact there. Use LinkedIn, Twitter, a recruiter, a friend and/or a letter.
  6. Find out what it really takes to be successful in the role and then leverage what you have going for yourself to negotiate the offer even when you don’t necessarily meet all the qualifications. Employers are not being as picky today. Use this to your benefit.

The iron is hot, and this tight job market should provide you all the courage you need to strike now.

If you want to leverage the tight job market, strike now and strike fast. This means you don’t want to wait to get started on the action items I have provided for you. David Payne with Kiplinger forecasts that job creation is likely hitting its peak and will soon decrease below 200,000 per month due to a scarcity of workers. This might mean that you likely have the most power that you will have for a long time right now.

Google is testing shopping tab, here’s what it may and may not mean for users

Google is testing shopping tab, here’s what it may and may not mean for users

BENGALURU: Search engine giant Google will soon launch its ‘Shopping’ tab in India, allowing users to search for products to buy and directing them to merchant websites or ecommerce platforms for product listings, two people familiar with the company’s plans told ET.

In the works for several months, the Shopping tab will be piloted soon, prior to a fullfledged launch before the end of the year, one of the persons said.

Confirming the development, a Google spokesperson in an emailed response said, “We are always exploring options to help consumers find the products they want to buy more quickly and efficiently from local merchants.”

Google is already in talks with ecommerce players such as Flipkart, Paytm Mall and Snapdeal to partake in the company’s shopping tab initiative, according to one of the persons cited earlier. ET could not independently verify the same. To be sure, multiple sources ET spoke with clarified that Google will not, for the moment, fulfil online shopping, either through its payment product or otherwise.

Likely to Tap Into SMEs
Besides large ecommerce websites, Google is also expected to tap into its large network of registered small and medium enterprises or SMEs — from neighbourhood kirana stores to high-end handicraft stores — to help users discover products they want. These merchants need not necessarily list on platforms like Amazon or Flipkart.

“They (Google) will partner with retailers of all sizes — it can tell the user where the product is available, is it available online, etc.,” said another person in the know. For now, this service is being provided free of cost.

Some experts see the Google shopping tab as a precursor of the internet giant eventually setting up an ecommerce marketplace.

“It is like how Amazon launched price comparison website Junglee.com before foraying into ecommerce full-fledged after they got consumer data,” said one of the persons cited above. “Google will also first understand Indian shopping trends through the Shopping tab.”

DECLINING AD REVENUES
Google’s foray into product search comes at a time when the tech giant is said to be losing market share to Amazon on product searches in the US, which translates into declining ad revenues.

The US online retail market is dominated by the powerful network built by Amazon through its Prime programme, which analysts believe is difficult to overcome by any other tech company.

“In the US, 50-60% product search begins at Amazon, bypassing Google and cannibalising its market,” said Arpan Sheth, a partner at consulting firm Bain & Company. “Google is losing online shoppers because of this and it is taking a hit at their advertising revenue.”

Earlier this year, media reports said that Flipkart and Amazon had reduced their ad spending on Google by as much as 30%.

Google’s annual ad revenues are over $40 billion. Amazon’s annualised ad revenue is much lower at over $6 billion, but it’s growing at around 132% quarter-on-quarter.

PRODUCT SEARCH
Akin to the ‘News’ or ‘Images’ tabs on Google search page, the ‘Shopping’ tab allows users to sift through different merchant listings of the product they are looking for.

At present, online shoppers generally go to an ecommerce website directly to search for a particular product.

While Google already lists products through its ‘product listing ads’, the Shopping tab will give users a lot more control. For instance, users can filter the product they are looking for based on price or any other attributes, while also getting more details of the product by going to the ‘details’ page.

On the merchant side, anyone with a product feed can plug into Google’s merchant centre to be listed on the shopping tab, said the second person cited earlier.

“The idea is that of an open ecosystem. Google wants partners of all sizes and shapes — offline, online, pureplay, omnichannel,” the person said.

Samsung’s Galaxy S10 trio and foldable phone detailed in insider report

Samsung’s plans for the early part of 2019 have been detailed by company insiders, who spoke to Bloomberg.

The report reveals that Samsung is working on three Galaxy S10 devices, one of which could be a 5G-ready phone, and planning to finally show off its new foldable smartphone.

The Galaxy S10 lineup will consist of three phones. A 5.8-inch Galaxy S10 with dual-curved AMOLED screen, triple cameras on the back (regular, ultra-wide and telephoto), in-display fingerprint scanner and an under the display selfie camera. There Plus model will be essentially the same, but with a larger display.

The entry-level Galaxy S10 will have a flat AMOLED display and will likely get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The report doesn’t mention cameras but we expect this cheaper Galaxy S10 to have a single camera on the back.

As for Samsung’s foldable smartphone, the report states that Samsung will be looking to dominate a niche market with potential to grow – no company currently offers a foldable-screen phone, although Huawei is hoping to deliver one soon.

The foldable phone was supposed to be shown this year but that seems unlikely at this point.

Finally the insider report claims that Samsung is mulling over ditching the headphone jack but it may push the decision further back.

Unfortunately, the most important feature of the vanilla Zenfone Max M2 is left out in the leak – the battery capacity. But since the Pro M2 is rumored to have a humongous 5,000 mAh cell, which would undoubtedly be the centerpiece feature of the device, we can assume that the regular Zenfone Max M2 won’t be that far off.
