New Delhi: 28th of April is celebrated as World Day for Safety and Health at Work and marks the need and awareness of a safe and healthy environment at the workplace. All of us spend most of our day at our workplaces and it is a necessity that our workplace is safe and secure, and we feel healthy and happy while we are there. It is both the duty of the management and the employees to make sure the best of conditions and environment are provided to the employees to make sure their productivity is always on the rise, and they are healthy throughout the year.

Staying healthy in your busy routine is only possible if you ensure healthy habits and practices at the workplace, as you spend most of your time there. You must follow these 5 ways and tips to ensure safety and health at your workplace for you and for others.

Eat healthily

You must steer clear of junk food and packaged food at the workplace. You should carry your lunch or dinner with you from home and cook it with healthy ingredients. You must also carry some munchies with you which are healthy, or else you will end up eating chips or similar packaged food, which is unhealthy for your body.

Do not stress

Believe it or not, but stress is a cause of various serious diseases like heart ailments and diabetes. The stress hormone, called cortisol is released in the body when we are too tensed or stress and can hamper the functioning of various other hormones and functions in the body. You must learn to manage work pressure and stress. While you can meditate for the same, the management at your workplace can also organise workshops and talk shows on stress management.

Use the gym

Most workplaces have gyms that can be used by all employees to stay healthy and fit. You should use the facility available at your workplace and workout to make sure your body is active and fit. Good cardio and weight training workout can not only help you lose weight and maintain it, but it will also help you to prevent diseases like diabetes.

Fire drills and safety instructions

Every workplace is instructed to carry out mock fire drills and give their employees safety instructions to ensure that they are ready and trained in case a fire breaks down in the office. The employees should also be given knowledge about first aid and help they can provide their peers in case someone is hurt in such events.

Special care of mental health

Mental health is a very important factor in employee productivity and care and must be taken care of at all costs. Having an in-house counsellor, and a way to anonymously talk to one can help employees feel better and prevent any mental health issues, or sort them if they have any.
